Kathleen Rooney-Otero
Kate Rooney-Otero currently works as a Pediatric Hospitalist for Nemours Children’s Hospital. She graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Dr. Otero also holds an MPH from Tulane University. Kate previously worked in politics and public health, including as an HIV epidemiologist and as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador. She is passionate about social justice and is involved in projects such as social determinants of health screening; building a pediatric advocacy coalition in Central Florida; developing a medical-legal partnership; creating a diversity, equity, and inclusion curriculum for residents that includes a module on ableism and people-first language; and working with medical schools to include more training on taking care of people with disabilities. In her work as a pediatrician, she is honored to care for children with a variety of conditions on both the acute and rehabilitation units of the hospital.
