In 2025, staff from Disability Rights Florida (DRF) worked with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 32BJ Training Fund. SEIU is one of the country’s largest labor unions, made up of two million members. Together, they followed training rules set by Miami International Airport and Miami-Dade County. They helped create and lead disability access training for over 200 airline workers at the airport. The training took place both in person and online. It covered what disability means, the rules of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Airline Carrier Access Act (ACAA), and tips for helping travelers with disabilities. There were small-group activities, live demos, and time for questions. Both staff and airline workers said they learned a lot from this training, including a better understanding of the importance of access in their specific roles, and committing to making airline travel more accessible for all.
