The Florida legislature enacted HB 747 and authorized the Florida Department of Education to make rules. The Florida Department of Education (DOE) has begun the rule development process to address in more detail the procedures for students who self-administer medication at school. This rule would affect students with diabetes, asthma, and cystic fibrosis but may be expanded to address self-administration of other medications. You can get involved by asking for a rule development workshop in your area, submitting comments about the subject to the DOE, and reviewing and commenting on drafts of the rule as they are released by the DOE.
The Department of Education has scheduled one rule development workshop for September 28, 2010, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Department of Education, 325 West Gaines Street, Room 1721/25, Turlington Building, Tallahassee, Florida 32399. Disability Rights Florida has requested that additional workshops be held throughout the state and we are waiting to hear back. Rule workshops are opportunities for your voice to be heard in the rulemaking process. Make your voice heard! Request and attend a workshop!
