How we can help individuals who have a TBI

What Is a TBI?

  • A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a blow, jolt to the head, or other head injury that disrupts the brain.
  • Each year, over 1.5 million Americans experience a brain injury that could range from a brief loss of consciousness to a long-lasting coma.
  • Regardless of severity, TBIs can affect a person’s ability to function independently at home, at school, or in the workplace.
  • The injury can affect many parts of a person’s life: thinking, language, learning, emotions, behavior, and/or sensation.
  • TBIs may also cause epilepsy and increase the risk of other brain disorders.
